Seacroft apprentice proves a dab hand at painting
A Seacroft student has proved to be a dab hand at painting and decorating after being named as the UK's top female apprentice.
Heather Adgie has scooped the award in the national Dulux Decorator Centres 'Apprentice of the Year 2008' at Walsall College. The Leeds College of Building student brushed aside hundreds of competitors to take the accolade after bagging third prize behind two men – making her top female.
Heather, 20, was awarded £250 plus £100 of Dulux vouchers for her achievement.
She said: "I am chuffed to bits to have won this award. I just want to show the public that women can be just as good as men in this trade, if not better! I've always strived to be good at something, but I never thought I would make the top three in the UK."
Heather is an apprentice with painting and decorating contractors Bell Group UK and in her final year of three at the college. This is her second major award in 12 months following her second place in the Johnstone's Young Painter of the Year competition last year.
